Holy Cross Lutheran Church is dedicated to the Word of God. Holy Cross is a Christ-centered church that works hard at educating the family and caring for the needs of one another. Here at Holy Cross, friends are made forever.
Holy Cross was established in 1926 and that same year acquired the property at 2670 Milwaukee Street. The Holy Cross congregation moved into the present sanctuary in 1962. In 1970, the congregation committed itself to a Christian Day School ministry.
Holy Cross is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Synod (ELS). The ELS, headquartered in Mankato, Minnesota, dates back to 1853 and was reorganized in 1917. Our synod has 130 congregations dispersed throughout the United States, with the greatest concentration in the Midwest.
The ELS has foreign and home mission programs, owns and operates a two-year liberal arts college (Bethany College), as well as its own seminary (Bethany Lutheran Theological Seminary).
The ELS has been characterized through the years by its warm evangelical spirit and by its uncompromising faithfulness to the historic Lutheran faith. Our synod has not joined with the Lutheran mergers of the past through which much or all of the heart of the faith has now been lost. Our synod is in fellowship with the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS). The ELS is truly a gospel-centered church body guided by the principles of Scripture alone, grace alone, and faith alone.
Worship services are held on Sundays at 8:15 am and 10:30 am, as well as on the Monday after the third Sunday of the month at 6:30 pm. During the summer, worship services are held on Sundays at 8:15 am and 10:00 am, and on Mondays at 6:30 pm. During worship services a nursery is available for parents with small children.
The Lord's Supper is offered to members on the first and third Sundays, as well as on the Monday after the third Sunday of the month. Because Jesus teaches us that we are to examine ourselves and that this holy supper creates a fellowship with one another, we ask that you please speak with the pastor before you commune with us.
