Holy Cross Monthly Newsletter - Mid-December, 2007

Dear Members of Holy Cross,

Sherri, the boys, and I wish you a Spirit-filled Christmas as you celebrate our Savior’s birth!

Sherri and the boys have all stepped out of their comfort zone this year and taken on new ventures.

This fall, Matt (now a senior at Lakeside) wore #13 for the first-ever Lakeside Lutheran High School soccer team. He hadn’t played organized soccer since grade school, so it took some courage to "restart" the soccer engine. Having never played together before, everyone was pleasantly surprised when Lakeside had a 13 win -2 loss -1 tie season.

One spring evening this past year, Jonathan (now a freshman at Lakeside) saw a want ad posted on a bulletin board in the "Good ‘n Loud" music store on Atwood Ave. He called the number, met a bassist named Adam and a drummer named Mitch. Jonathan became the guitarist. A girl named Shawna was soon added as the keyboardist and vocalist. Although these 4 come from very diverse backgrounds, they became fast friends, and have a lot of fun developing their musical talent together.

Nathan, (in 7th grade at Holy Cross), has a heart for basketball, has the heart to practice relentlessly, and can outshoot and out-hustle his 6’ 2" brothers. Although he’s the smallest on the court, he’s trying out for the Lakeside Lutheran traveling 7th grade team.

Sherri left the comfort zone of 8 years of working at Holy Cross as a teachers’ aid. She’s now a preschool teacher at Country Creek Learning Center on Portage Road near Token Creek. She’s also working as a care provider for the Community Living Alliance. Sherri’s a care taker, so these jobs fit her well.

Jesus left the comfort zone of heaven because He loves YOU! Think of what He left behind. Stepping out of the throne room of heaven, He was born in a humble manger. He appeared weak and poor and lowly. He was a friend to sinners. He went so far out of His comfort zone that he took your sins and guilt as His own and died for them.

We love our Savior. Let’s all step out of our comfort zone for Him. This new year determine in your heart to tell someone new about your best friend, Jesus. Determine to live for Him no matter what the consequences… and have a blessed new year!

Merry Christmas from our family to yours!

About 2,000 years ago, God sent an angel to a young woman named Mary to tell her she would become the mother of the Savior of the world. God himself would be the baby’s father. An angel was also sent to Joseph, the man to whom Mary was engaged. The angel assured Joseph that the baby in Mary’s body was not another man’s, but God’s own Son.

Jesus’ mother was a human being, a virgin. His father was God himself. Therefore, Jesus is both God and man. The Bible calls him the Son of God and the Son of Man. He had to be a man so he could die. He had to be God so he could be born without sin and live a sinless life. When he died, he died because of our sins; he had no sins of his own. Yes, the baby born in Bethlehem was a man but he was also God. Only the God-man Jesus was able to be the Savior from sin that we need.

Because of Jesus, we truly can have a joyful and merry Christ-mas!

The kids continue to grow, and Kira, now 6 ˝, loves 1st Grade with Mrs. Karow and all the kids in her class of 11 students. She also loves that her cousin, Sophia Griffin, is in her class. In gym class she learned how to jump rope. Her Grandpa then made her a jump rope, and now she can hop on one foot while swinging the rope backwards! At home, Kira can be found in the kitchen, helping Katie out with anything that needs to be done.

Benjamin is 8 ˝ now and loves 3rd grade with Mrs. Marozick. He is still our sports guy and wears through his shoes quickly playing football at recess. He is in charge of filling out the ‘Worship Participation Card’ on Sunday mornings, and weekly informs me on the bottom of the card, that he would like to learn Greek! J

Katie does a wonderful job on the home front. She manages everybody’s schedule and makes sure that we have what is needed each day. She is a substitute in the school’s After School Care program, and loves going on walks a few times each week with a friend from church.

As for me, I was thrilled that 30 high school youth from Holy Cross were able to go to LYA at Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, MN this past summer. I pray that one day, some of them are able to attend Bethany, and no matter what their future vocation, use their God given skills to serve their Savior.

Merry Christmas from the Madison Tweit’s!
