What do we Believe?
Beginning Monday, January 8 at 7:30 pm, for 10 consecutive Monday nights, we invite you to join us for our Adult Information Class. This class explains the doctrines of scripture… and is basically, an adult confirmation class. Who’s invited?

• Anyone interested in becoming a member at Holy Cross…
• Anyone who wants to study what Holy Cross believes…
• Members who would like a refresher course in our basic doctrines…
• School parents who want to know what their children are being taught in our school.

Lutheran Sentinel
The Lutheran Sentinel is a monthly periodical with religious articles and news about the Evangelical Lutheran Synod. If you are currently not receiving the Sentinel at your home, and would like to receive it, or if you are receiving it, and no longer want to, please call the church office and speak to Linda Martin at 249-3101.

Kalahari Water Park
Sunday, February 24, noon – 9 pm
Youth and families of Holy Cross… join us at the Kalahari. For Holy Cross members the cost of a day pass is only $18. Pizza and pop are included! Watch for more information soon!

Ski Outing
Sunday, January 27, 3 pm – 10 pm
Join fellow Holy Cross members and members of the Madison area ELS churches for our annual ski outing at Tyrol Basin. Free lessons are available for beginners. We’ll leave church about 3 pm and return about 10 pm. Sign up on Pastor Tweit’s window, get a ski rental form from Pastor Tweit’s office, and return it to him by January 20. Cost is $16 for a lift ticket and $6 for ski or snow board rental. Drivers are also needed.

Adult/High School Open Gym & Movie
Saturdays, 6:30-9 pm
Holy Cross sponsors a weekly open gym and once-a-month movie night. Movie nights are every 1^st Saturday of the month. Please bring a snack to share on movie night. Holy Cross members and invited friends are welcome. Parents, please note that senior youth coming and going from the Holy Cross gym/cafeteria will not be monitored. During open gym, please enter and exit Holy Cross via the rear gym entrance from the back parking lot.

Men’s 6:30 am Bible Study
The Men’ Bible Study Group that meets at 6:30 am on Wednesdays will be finishing up its fall study with the books of James, 1&2 Peter, 1, 2 & 3 John, and Jude right before Christmas. These men invite you to join them beginning Wednesday, January 9 as we will begin a new study that looks at all of the Messianic prophecies from the Old Testament and find their passages of fulfillment in the New Testament in Christ. Please talk to Pastor Tweit if you are interested.

Thanks from the Synod!
We recently received a letter at Holy Cross thanking the ladies groups and mission societies of the synod which gave to Cross stitch. Their generosity has supported mission projects such as these:

• Clothing and school supplies for orphans in India
• Financial support for Rachel Khamrang, English teacher in Chile
• Scholarships for Peruvian women to further their education
• Lavatory and other capital improvements in the churches in Peru
• English instruction for high school students in Korea.

I Resolve to Grow in the Word…
In 2008, why not resolve to grow in your Bible knowledge and your devotion to the Word. Look over the list below. One or more of the items listed may grab your attention and cause you to say, "With the help of the Holy Spirit I intend, this new year to…"

• Attend church more regularly
• Read my Bible daily
• Read a daily devotion out of the Meditations booklet from church
• Get a devotion book suited for the ages of people in my family from either nph.net (Northwestern Publishing House) or cph.org (Concordia Publishing House)
• Attend Bible Study on Sunday mornings
• Attend a weekday Bible Study at Holy Cross
• Memorize a passage of scripture each week
• Read through the Bible in a year
• Put Bible verses where I can see them in my home or my place of work.
• Pick a book of the Bible and study it more deeply with study aids from the People’s Bible Series (nph.net)
• Pick a topic of the Bible and study it more deeply with study aids from the People’s Bible Teachings (nph.net)
• Add your own ideas….

In 2008, why not resolve to grow in your prayer life. Look over the list below. One or more of the listed items may grab your attention and cause you to say, "With the help of the Holy Spirit I intend, this new year to…."

• Pray each day when I wake up
• Pray each day when I go to bed
• Pray out loud with a family member
• Develop a list of people and things to pray for.
• Thank God each day for at least 10 things
• Pray when I get to my place of work each day that the Lord would be with me in every situation at work
• Pray when I get home each day that the Lord would be with me in every family situation
• Dedicate one day to praying for my spouse or child.
• I will spend prayer time in the pew preparing for worship before the service begins
• I will spend prayer time in preparation for the Lord’s Supper either on Saturday nights or Sunday mornings.
• Add your own ideas

I Resolve to Share my Faith…
In 2008, why not resolve to purposefully share your faith in Christ. Look over the list below. One or more of the listed items may grab your attention and cause you to say, "With the help of the Holy Spirit I intend, this new year to…."

• Invite a certain person to church
• Pray for a certain person to become a believer, and for God to use me as an instrument to help.
• Look for small opportunities to fit God into every day conversations
• Ask someone I see on a regular basis where they go to church… and if they don’t go, invite them to mine.
• Each month find someone I can help in a special way, either in the church or neighborhood
• Volunteer at a non-profit organization, or give to them.
