Mission Festival

ur Mission Festival preacher this year is Pastor David Meyer, who recently moved, with his family, from Australia, where he worked with the United Bible Society in Asia and Europe. Prior to that, David served as Director of Thoughts of Faith, a ministry reaching out to people in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. In-between services, Mr. Kermit Traska, Director of Thoughts of Faith, will talk about the work of missionaries in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. Included with this newsletter is a special envelope for Mission Festival Sunday, to be used specifically for Mission work in the Evangelical Lutheran Synod.

Joint Reformation Service!

his year Holy Cross is hosting a joint Reformation Service with other area ELS and WELS congregations. The guest preacher will be Pastor Mark Jeske from ‘Time of Grace Ministries.’ Special music will be provided with string instruments and a joint choir. A catered supper, with a free will donation, will follow the service. The meal will be provided by Bob Worm, member at Eastside Lutheran Church and owner of the Essen House.

ELS Women’s Mission Rally!

lease join the ELS women in supporting our Foreign and Home missions! This year’s Mission Rally is at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Okauchee, Wisconsin. Speakers this year will be Polly Joubert, who will tell about Vacation Bible School work in Ukraine, and Pastor Steve Petersen, ELS Missions Counselor, who update us on other ELS mission efforts around the world. The day always proves to be enlightening and very uplifting. We hope to see a large number of Holy Cross women there! Registration is at 9 am, programs begin at 10 am. Lunch will be served. If you haven’t had a chance to sign up yet, please call Diane Baxter at 835-9066.

Marriage Seminar!

arriage is a great blessing from God! Here’s an excellent chance to foster this God-given relationship. Dr. William Kessel from Bethany Lutheran College will be our presenter for a Friday evening, Saturday morning and afternoon marriage seminar. This seminar will be informative, fun, a great chance for growth and for fellowship. All are welcome!

Holiday Craft and Bake Sale

ooking for holiday crafts, gifts, or baked goods? Come and browse… bring the children along for some hot sandwiches. Proceeds will go to the ladies circles and will be used for church and synod projects. Our Ladies Aid encourages anyone not in a circle to donate handmade items or baked goods. Bring them over either on Friday, October 31 or early Saturday.

Open Gym/Movie Night

dult/senior youth open gym
will run weekly, each Saturday, from 6:30 – 9:00 pm, through early March, 2009. The first open gym on October 4 will feature a movie night. Please bring a snack to share! Holy Cross members and invited friends are welcome. Parents, please note that senior youth coming and going from the Holy Cross gym/cafeteria will
not be monitored. During the open gym, please enter and exit Holy Cross via the rear gym entrance from the back parking lot.

Fall Family Fun at the Farm!

oin us for our annual Fall Harvest Family Fun Night at Schuster’s Playtime Farm on Hwy 12/18 near Deerfield. The evening includes a hayride at 6 pm to pick pumpkins (costs are on the sheet in the narthex), a play area, bonfire, corn mazes and more!. Please bring a dish to pass. Refreshments are provided. All Holy Cross Church and School families are welcome! Sign up on the office window.

Cleaning Night

uesday, October 7 at 6 pm Naomi Circle will be doing some extra cleaning to spruce up our school for the upcoming sports seasons. We need your help! If you are willing to donate an hour or two of your time to help clean, we would greatly appreciate it. Cleaning supplies will be provided, but you may wish to bring your own rubber gloves. ethany Lutheran College invites juniors and seniors to join us for a FREE weekend filled with fun and excitement. Learn about the "Bethany Experience" by visiting with faculty, attending chapel, touring the campus, and enjoying a variety of events as well as checking out the Mankato area. Best of all, Bethany will cover the entire cost of food, lodging and events while on campus, as well as transportation from Holy Cross. The bus will leave Holy Cross at 1:30 pm on Thursday, October 30 and arrive back to Holy Cross at 1:30 pm on Sunday, November 2. (Students will be asked for a $40 deposit that will be returned when they arrive on campus.)
