W
e hope that all Holy Cross children will attend Sunday School! Sunday School is for children ages 3 - high school. In Sunday School our children learn and are reinforced in their Bible knowledge. It’s a great setting for our public and parochial students to get to know one another and fellowship with one another. It’s also a prime opportunity for parents to attend Adult Bible Class while children are at Sunday School, and instill in your children a lifelong habit of regular Bible Study with other Christians!

No Monday Evening Worship Service on Labor Day, September 1!

Thanks from the Schubkegels!

e’ll read and discuss The Epistle to the Ephesians. The letter to the Ephesians divides into 2 sections:

The 1st three chapters deal with the plan of salvation that God conceived already in eternity, implemented in time, and which will reach its completion on Judgment Day, when God takes his believers to heaven for eternity. A prominent theme is that all this comes by grace.

The last three chapters outline the Christian’s response to God’s grace and call us to a life of love and service to God and our neighbor. Along with other directives, Paul includes his Table of Duties for husbands and wives, children and parents, employers and employees. Notable in this section is the thought that Christian marriage is a reflection of the love Christ has for his bride, the Church!

Mark your calendar and join us beginning September 9!

e’ll read and discuss "The Spirituality of the Cross" by Dr. Gene Veith. >Gene Veith was longing to have his hunger for God satisfied. He tried a variety of religious experiences including mysticism, eastern religions, liberal theology and social justice programs, and several branches of Christianity. None of those experiences satisfied his hunger for God. Then, Dr. Gene Veith found Lutheranism, and he found answers. In The Spirituality of the Cross, the author discusses in detail the biblical views of the Lutheran Church and why and how they satisfy our deep hunger for God. Veith writes, "It should be emphasized that I am writing as a layman, and am neither a theologian nor a pastor. My approach will be to explain what I have gained from the Lutheran tradition that I have found helpful in my own spiritual life, in terms I hope my fellow ordinary folk will understand." This is an excellent book! The price of the book is $12.99. If you would like to join us, please let Pastor Bartels know so we can order a book for you!
