Church governance

The following boards and committees work according to the direction of the voters and the Church Council, which coordinates and integrates all of the work at Holy Cross Church and School. The Church Council is comprised of the president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, and the chairperson and secretary of each of the administrative boards. Holy Cross operates on a fiscal year that begins in August.

Board of Elders
This group oversees the spiritual welfare of the pastors and members. The Board of Elders also oversees the following committees:
  • The Membership Committee, which seeks to redirect our inactive members into active, regular use of the Word and Sacraments.
  • The Senior Ministry Committee, which provides spiritual guidance, fellowship, and services for the older members of the congregation.
  • The Youth and Education Committee, which provides spiritual growth, fellowship, and service projects for the youth of the congregation, and oversees the Sunday School.
  • The Worship Committee, which concerns itself with all that is involved in worship.
Board of Trustees
This group maintains and repairs all church property.

Board of Stewardship and Finance
This group develops and promotes the Biblical principle of the management of our time, talent and money, representing a faith response to God's love.

School Board
This group supervises the entire educational program of our Lutheran school.

Membership Development Board
This group concerns itself with outreach to non-members and "in-reach" to members, helping them all to grow in their relationship with Holy Cross. The Membership Development Board also oversees the following subcommittees:
  • Evangelism Committee, which concerns itself with the outreach programs of the church.
  • New Member Assimilation Committee, which is responsible for helping new members become integrated into the congregation.
  • Young Adult Committee, which works at strengthening the fellowship among the young adults of the congregation.
Endowment Fund Committee
This group plans for the long-range financial stability of the congregation by raising permanent funds for the church.

Nominating Committee
This group makes recommendations for the voters to consider for elected positions for the following year.

Relocation Committee
This group is charged with facilitating our congregation's plans to relocate to our new property on Holy Cross Way.

Worship groups

Many people with wide-ranging talents help to beautify our worship services. These groups include the choir, bell choir, greeters, altar guild and ushers. Learn more about each group and how you can participate.

Service groups

Thrivent Financial
This group meets at church for various service projects and social events. Watch church announcements for meeting dates and times.

Bethany Women's Auxiliary
This group supports Bethany Lutheran College through monetary gifts and various activities such as attendance at Bethany Women's Auxiliary Day in September.

Offerings Counters
Throughout the year, several teams count our offerings and make deposits.

House of Thrift Volunteers
Work at the House of Thrift filling shelves, cleaning, cashiering or checking in merchandise. Proceeds help support Bethesda Lutheran Communities, an organization that seeks to enhance the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities through services that share the good news of Jesus Christ.

Care groups

Sponsors
Help to make new members become integrated into the Holy Cross congregation by introducing them to church members, making them aware of church events, and maintaining contact with them.

Support Group
Meets in the senior pastor's office on the last Monday of the month at 10 a.m. Members in the process of grieving or in the midst of other life crises need Christian friends to listen and to bear each other's burdens.

Prayer Chain
Prays for members of our congregation as needs arise. Prayer requests are received by telephone and relayed to individuals on a phone tree.

Fellowship groups
Ladies Aid
Meets in the cafeteria on the first Thursday of the month at 1 p.m. Meetings consist of dessert, pastor-led Bible study and a business meeting.

Esther Circle
Meets in the homes of various members on the second Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. Meetings consist of dessert, Bible study and a business meeting.

Lydia Circle
Meets in the homes of various members on the second Thursday of the month at 1 p.m. Meetings consist of dessert, Bible study and a business meeting.

Naomi Circle
Meets in the homes of various members on the first Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. Meetings consist of Bible study, a business meeting and dessert.

Ruth Circle
Usually meets in the homes of various members on the last Tuesday of the month at noon. Meetings consist of a meal or dessert, Bible study and a business meeting.

Ruth Circle is looking for calico or cotton material (no less than a half yard in length), double fold bias tape, quarter-inch elastic, and thread to help with “Little Dresses for Africa” and “Britches for Boys” If you have any questions. about this organization please contact a Ruth Circle Member or visit Facebook. Please bring your donations to church and place them in the box near the coat rack.
