Starving for Perfection

The cover girl’s eyes stared seductively from the magazine at Angela. She was transfixed by the model’s waif-like features; her shape was utterly perfect. "That’s it! I’m going on a diet." Angela felt a sense of relief and resolve. She had identified the problem- or so she thought.

Angela had been struggling with a feeling that something was wrong with her. If only her body could be more like this model’s, she would be popular, more easily accepted, more successful and confident. The green-eyed model had given her the answer she was searching for: "There is something wrong with me. I’m too fat!"

Growing up in America today means contending with the cultural ideal of thinness, especially for young women. The image that they have for themselves is often artificial and impractical. That ideal image can lead adolescents to despise their bodies and disregard their health, neither of which is God-pleasing.

Mission Project
The mission project for the first semester of this school year is the ELS mission effort to support Christian schools in the Amazon of Peru. The money will be used to support our missionaries and teachers spreading the Gospel in the cities and rainforests of Peru. Please set aside an offering for your child to bring. This offering is collected during our weekly chapel services.

GradeKeeper is the teachers’ online grade book and is available for students in gr. 3-8. Please check your student’s progress regularly. Login IDs are available from your child’s teacher.

Financial Aid for 08-09
Financial aid forms for 2008-09 for current school families are available from Mrs. Patten in the school office. The deadline for returning these forms is April 30. It is a good idea to finish your 2007 taxes prior to filling out the form.

Call News
School board has issued a Divine Call to Mr. Shu-Ting Lai to serve as principal and upper grades teacher beginning in the 2008-09 school year. Mr. Lai is currently serving at Holy Trinity in Okauchee, WI. He is married and has five children. Please keep Mr. Lai and his family in your prayers as he determines where the Lord wants his service.
