To Christian Parents
John Cook
Drinking- Not My Child

4. Know the warning signs
Look for signs that can warn you that your child may be abusing alcohol or drugs. At home children with an abuse problem tend to

At school children with an abuse problem frequently

5. Don’t panic
If your child shows signs of having an abuse problem, you’ll need to remain calm. You will need to talk with your son or daughter, express your concern, and listen to what your child says. Offer reassurances of your love and God’s love.

Seek professional help. It will show your child that you are serious about what you are saying, and that you are willing to go to great lengths to help. That, too, shows love.

Christian parents do not need to feel helpless when it comes to preventing alcohol and drug problems from touching the lives of their children. We cannot control the choices our children make, but we can faithfully instruct them in God’s Word and provide a model of how he wants us to live. Those two choices can go a long way toward abuse-proofing our children.
