Your Legacy

Picture a family gathering 50 years from now. Your children are there with their spouses. So are your grandchildren. You are the only member of the family that is missing! What would they be saying as they reminisce? Would it be "Mom always had the house looking so clean!" or "Dad sure enjoyed his sports on television!" Or would you hope the legacy you left behind would have more substance- maybe something like "Remember how she loved to read Bibles stories to us?" or he sure knew what was most important for our lives." Parents can leave no greater legacy than to teach their children to love the Savior and his Word.

Writing your legacy
Now is the time to write such a legacy in your children’s hearts. Through them you will be touching the lives of generations to come. When we regularly take time in our homes to share God’s Word, we impress on our children’s hearts what is most important. We are giving them an eternal legacy!

But is it really so vital to do that at home? Isn’t that why there are pastors and teachers? Isn’t that why we worship as a family on Sunday? Isn’t that why we support Lutheran schools and Sunday school programs?

Sunday schools and parochial schools are wonderful blessings, but nothing can replace the sharing of God’s truth, heart-to-heart, between parent and child. When the Word is seldom shared in our homes, we are unwittingly leaving the impression with our children that "Jesus stuff" isn’t what real life is about.

Mission Project
The mission project for the first semester of this school year is the ELS mission effort to support Christian schools in the Amazon of Peru. The money will be used to support our missionaries and teachers spreading the Gospel in the cities and rainforests of Peru. Please set aside an offering for your child to bring. This offering is collected during our weekly chapel services.
