Principals Report:
Asked for suggestions for what to do with old science textbooks. (Amy Hoel will look into before next meeting.) We currently do not have all the new science textbooks, some are on back order. (Jenny noted we have so far paid for $4830.38) Lexi Larson’s son won a trip from the Madison Police Department’s K-9 unit to come visit our school. He asked us to coordinate. It was decided, he would need to work with them to determine the time. We would be willing to send out fliers.
Treasurers Report
A proposed budget was discussed. The adopted budget for the school year will be attached. The total proposed budget is $10,825. We currently have $15,871.41 in our checkbook. We have paid for the first installment ($1,111.81) for the science textbooks. PTO needs to pay $3,718.57 for the second installment. We received a check for milk tops turned in last school year for $149.74.
New/Old Business
Continuing Education
funding was discussed. School Board again asked if we could put money towards reimibursing the two teachers who participated this past summer. Once again, we have to refer to our bylaws which state that our monies cannot be used for things that are already part of the school budget. We politely decline, again.Library Shelving
Mrs. Becker, our librarian, would like 2 shelving units for the library to shelve the many books we currently have sitting in boxes. Discussed the possibility of getting the shelves donated. Voted to pay for the shelves at an approximate cost of $235 each from the "To Be Determined" fund, with the proviso that if someone comes forward wanting to donate them, they can reimburse the PTO.Bucky Books
We have 20 left, though 3 have disappeared from Jenny’s office. We will put a notice in the News for You asking if any have picked one up without yet paying, to please get that money to Jenny ASAP.Basic Aid Training
for 8-11 year olds. Suzi has offered to get certified to teach it here and at Schenk school. We will then be able to do the program for free (all materials provided). She will look into getting more information on what will be needed and when we can possibly do it for next meeting.Halloween Goody Bags
will be handed out at school for all the students and will include such things as crazy straws, dental floss from a local dentist, pencils, and other fun things. Suzi, Amy, and Cindy will work together on this project.Koats for Kids
ends October 4th. Suzi has dropped of 17 already. Kathy will make last dropoff this Saturday. Suzi will get her the form. Katie will make a flier to be hung and handed out to students reminding them to bring in their coats.Spirit Wear
received a great response! The order will go out, Friday, October 3rd. Expect 4-6 weeks to receive the merchandise. We will run another order drive in March.Playground Equipment
PTO was asked to help research, design, and come up with special fundraising for new playground equipment to be installed at our new location. Cindy will look into permits, liability insurance, and code requirements. Lavonne Dettmers will get pricing estimates for various designs from local companies. Nedra will put together a survey for parents and teachers to fill out asking them what they would hope to see with the new playground. The school currently has $7521 from previous fundraisers set aside for the new playground. Basic pieces typically cost $25,000 to $50,000. We will probably do a Silent Auction next school year to help raise these funds.Library Books
Pat Becker would like to purchase 100 books this year including replacing old deteriorated copies. She will come up with a wish list for books that could be donated. Book plates will be available to put inside to note who donated and why (e.g. in honor of, in memory of, etc.) Suzi is also in the process of procuring 2 vacations to be auctioned off at some future date to help raise money for new books.Trivia Night
will be held on March 7th. Diane needs door prizes. There will also be a small silent auction again. Profits will be given to both playground equipment and library books.Committee Reports
